Direct benefit transfer of lPG scheme from January 1

The direct benefit transfer of lPG (DBTl) scheme in Uttarakhand and other parts of the country will be started from January 1, 2015,  a top official of the Indian Oil Corporation limited said here on Tuesday.

As part of these changes, the consumers are not mandatorily required to have an Aadhaar number. However, a bank account was required, he added.  There are about 25 lakh lPG consumers across Uttarakhand.

lPG consumers would receive subsidy in their bank accounts by linking Aadhar number to their bank accounts. However, the consumers who do not have Aadhar number can receive subsidy directly to bank accounts without the use of Aadhar number, said Dhirendra Kumar, manager (lPG-sales), IOC, Dehradun Area office.

Sajjan Kumar, general manager, UP State Office - II said that a ‘grace period’ of three months, that was, from January 1, 2015 to March 31 had been kept during which the consumers who have not yet joined the scheme will continue to get cylinders at subsidised rate. An additional ‘parking period’ of three months will be provided to such consumers during which the entitled subsidy will be parked and shall be transferred to consumers’ bank accounts on joining the scheme.

“For smooth implementation of DBTl scheme, we appealed to all the lPG consumers who do not have Aadhar cards to approach nearby Aadhar camps for enrollment. Consumers having Aadhar numbers should approach banks and lPG distributors for getting their details linked through Form-1 and 2.
