Chief Secretary Shatrughan Singh said aside from being focused on Bijli, Sadak and Pani (BSP), they are now adding the fourth basic need that is digital infrastructure. “We should work for its expansion on missionary mode. Union Government is working on Digital India to bring India on international platform. Its impact would be visible in rural and urban areas, on the  youth as well as the elderly,” he said while addressing a seminar-Digital Uttarkhand-Bridging people, process and technology-Dehradun on Friday.

He mentioned that as per the World Bank estimate, 10 per cent increase in mobile use has resulted in per capita GDP increasing by 0.81 per cent. “Similarly with the broad band connectivity, the per capita GDP has risen by 1.38 per cent,” he said.

He stressed that still the figure of the people using internet standing at mere 15 percent is not  encouraging. “Besides,  just 5.5 percent people are using broadband in India.  We should try by all means to reach  internet service in Uttarakhand’s remote areas through e-Uttarakhand,” he  said.

“ Citizens will get service easily through Aadhar card and Unique ID. The mobile phones make information on finance, education and health easily available. Through e-commerce, sale and service delivery has become faster. With these digital initiatives,  technology and service have brought qualitative changes in the lives of persons, government, trade and society as well,” he said.

DGP MA Ganapathy highlighted the impact of cyber crime and asked all to be alert on cyber security.

Industries Association of Uttarkhand (IAU) chairman Pankaj Gupta praised  the chief secretary for the good ranking of the state in ease of doing business. It has boosted the confidence of the entrepreneurs, he said.
