The differently abled people from across the State have come together under one banner Uttarakhand Divyang Ekta Manch to fight for their rights.
The newly appointed state coordinator of UDEM, Sandeep Arora told The Pioneer, “The differently abled people and those afflicted with cerebral palsy have come together to form this joint platform named as Uttarakhand Divyang Ekta Manch. This would further empower the Divyangs to fight for their causes and get the long- pending act meant for their welfare implemented with the desired amendments by the new State Government.”
The State secretary of the Manch Amit Dobhal said that the help of social media would be taken to spread awareness about the rights of the differently abled persons across the State. “Their protection would be our prime priority at every level,” added Amit.
The demands of the Manch include formation of a state commission for differently abled persons, a separate university for them in Haridwar and reservation of seats for them to fight elections from the panchayat to the Parliamentary levels in tune with the reservation for OBC category people.
