The health of the patients is being compromised at the Dialysis unit of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (Coronation) government hospital. In a surprise inspection of the unit on Wednesday, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun, Dr T C Pant was astonished to see the level of sanitation and possibility of infection inside the unit where the dialysis of the patients was undergoing. Irked by these conditions the CMO handed over an ultimatum to the ‘Nephro Plus’ the company operating the centre under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode and asked it improve things within 24 hours.
Pant said that patients of the kidney related diseases are more prone to the infection and in a dialysis unit utmost care should be done to maintain high level of sanitation and creation of an aseptic environment. He informed that he was shocked to see that anyone can enter the dialysis centre wearing shoes. Further there was no dress code which is a prerequisite in a dialysis centre due to which it was difficult to distinguish between staff and attendant of the patient, he said. The CMO categorically stated that playing with the health of the patients would not be tolerated. He said that the company has been asked to improve things failing which the centre would be sealed for violating the rules laid down by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
In the centre the dialysis of more than 50 patients is done daily. The patients of Below Poverty line (BPl) and Mukhyamtri Swasthya Bima Yojna (MSBY) get the facility of free dialysis at the centre.
