DGP Ganapathy directs district police to stay alert

Taking serious note of the recent two communally charged incidents in Pauri and Haridwar districts and also of minor scuffle between two communities in Haldwani in Nainital district, State DGP MA Ganapathy has asked the district police chiefs to be fully alert. He stressed while interacting with police officers over video conferencing at PHQ auditorium on Monday.

He said that they need to identity the communally vulnerable places and to take preventive steps in advance to stop their recurrence in any part of the State.

The district police officers have been directed to be doubly cautious of the places pregnant with the possibility of communal flare-ups. “We are worried and would take all measures to stamp out the possibility of any fresh flare -up anywhere in the state. This is in view of the fact that the Assembly election is nearing.  We have our adequate presence in the communally sensitive areas and we would step up our presence further,” the DGP said.

Furthermore, the state’s top cop asked the officers to promptly inform their seniors about any incident fraught with communal sensitivity, happening anywhere. He stressed on anti-riot drill being held at regular intervals to keep police in utmost readiness.

Ganapathy sounded displeased over the lower rate of punishment being given to the offenders involved in serious crimes in various districts of the state. He directed the police officers to improve quality in investigation of the registered cases. He said that to improve quality in investigation, police officers deputed on registered cases should delve deeper into the crimes, keeping all the aspects of the crimes in view. This is a must to ensure that maximum punishment is imparted to the perpetrators of the crimes, leaving them with no issue out of the cases. He said the senior officers should visit the crime sites and collect evidences themselves. Besides, the cops must have a command over the details of IPC, CrPC and others to pin down the criminals appropriately, DGP said.
