Once again the security arrangements at Dehradun Railway station appear to be lagging behind. On Monday, one of the Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD) was not working.
According to local police, the detectors were checked before Kanwad Mela and it is proposed that new DFMDs will be installed before Kumbh Mela 2021.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of the Government Railway Police, Manoj Katyal said, “We installed the DFMDs and it is our responsibility to maintain it. Sometimes, when the power charge of the DFMD is exhausted it stops working, but we will check it right away.
As for the Kumbh 2021 it will be a detailed security work at new Rishikesh railway station, Motichoor and Raiwala Railway station.
Then Haridwar, Laksar and Roorkee will also be the obvious key railway stations. New and technologically advanced security equipment will be brought into picture.” About the CCTV cameras Dehradun railway station director Dinesh Chandra said, “We have 15 CCTV cameras installed which are being monitored by Railway Police Force (RPF) presently. We have proposed to install 10 more CCTV cameras.” According to a member of Doon Taxi Union, both GRP and RPF forces conduct security check from time to time but equipment they use are usually outdated and do not work properly.
The DFMD here do not work most of the time and even when they do passengers seldom take them seriously.
