On the eve of the 69th Independence Day, Uttarakhand Governor Dr KK Paul said that despite ample talent, resources, planning and other efforts, Uttarakhand is yet to reach the heights of progress and development.
“Our greatest challenge in Uttarakhand is the all-round development of the hilly areas. Economic development is linked to the standard of basic facilities like education, agriculture and health. By providing these, the scenario in the remotest areas can be changed for the better. There is also great need and scope of improving the standard of higher education,” he said.
According to a recent survey, Dehradun is lagging far behind in cleanliness even though it has been almost a year since the Swachh Bharat mission started.
“To present a good image of the state, it is important that all basic arrangements are taken care of in the capital city. A lot needs to be done in this direction. Each citizen must make sure that he or she participates in this cleanliness mission sincerely and makes his or her home, city and state clean, beautiful and healthy,” he said.
“The capability of any state or country is assessed not by the challenges they face but by the manner in which they deal with the challenges. During the implementation of laws, policies and plans it must be kept in mind that we are moving forward while maintaining the values and ethics of society,” Governor said.
lauding the role of women in the progress of the society, he said that for any civilized society, it is important and necessary that women are as empowered as men. “History is a witness to the fact that from the fight for independence, women have contributed as much as men to the country and have continued to do so in its progress and development. In the context of Uttarakhand, this contribution by women has been remarkable. Women of Uttarakhand, who played an important role in its creation are the backbone of the social and economic structure of the state,” he said.
“While celebrating this historic occasion, come –let us resolve to contribute in building such a society, such a nation where all sections of society get equal opportunities to benefit from the development of the country. Before raising our voices for our rights, we must understand our responsibilities towards our country and state and fulfill them,” Governor said in his message.
