Developers should invest in State's solar wind power generation: CM

Published on:

Developers should come forward for solar-wind power generation and micro hydel projects for which there is considerable scope in the mountainous areas of Uttarakhand.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat said this at an event held here on Monday. Averring that the State Government is committed to capitalise on Uttarakhand’s power generation potential, the CM said that important decisions have been taken by the State for development in the power sector.

These include implementation of the State’s solar policy, facilitating the provision of financial resources to Panchayats with their participation in micro and mini hydro power projects along with drafting of a policy for making the State self reliant in the power sector.

Principal secretary, Power, Umakant Panwar said that a target of setting up solar power generation projects generating 500 MW by 2018 has been set in the solar power policy of the State.

At present, solar power projects of 30 MW capacity are under construction and expected to be completed by March 31, 2016, he added.
