Devasthanam Board repeal: Cong to demand discussion in Assembly

Published on:

Even as the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced that his government would repeal contentious Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board act Congress party is in no mood to let government off the hook  on the issue. The party is now planning to demand a discussion on Act in upcoming winter session of Uttarakhand assembly.

The strategy of Congress party is to corner the government on roll back. The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Uttarakhand assembly Pritam Singh told media persons here on Thursday that  party would not allow BJP government to run away from discussion on issue. Terming  BJP ruled Union and Uttarakhand governments as roll back governments; the LoP said that BJP which was adamant onDevasthanam board was forced to repeal it due to opposition it faced. He said that CM Dhami should answer people of state as to why he remained silent as a member of house when Devasthanam Board was tabled in state assembly in 2019. Singh said that BJP minister signed paeans in support of Devasthanam board and three farm laws but they have now been repealed by state and union governments respectively.

On question of his recent meeting with the cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat which generated a lot of speculation on possible defection  of Rawat to Congress party’s fold, Pritam Singh said that Harak Singh is a minister and he ( Pritam) has met him on issues of his constituency. He categorically stated that no leader of BJP is in touch with him for defection but added that in politics doors are always open and anyone can come in and go out from them. Cornering the BJP government on its decision of first convening session in Gairsain and then doing a somersault for holding session in Dehradun, Singh said that Congress party would raise issues of public interest forcefully in assembly session.
