A seminar titled ‘latest design challenges in manufacturing industry’ was organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tula’s institute here on Thursday. The seminar focused on the industrial aspects of manufacturing.

Addressing the students and scholars, renowned researcher Sandeep Sharma said, “These days, advanced equipments, ideas and processes have strong impact on industrial environment. Industrial designers face a number of challenges as manufacturers are facing more competition and faster development cycles than ever before”. While interacting with the students, Sandeep Sharma talked about the design requirements of industries, current work scenario happening in the field of design, requirements of good design and its solving tools. He also talked about the current technologies that are driving changes in industries such as Robotics, 3D printing and augmented reality. Answering a question on innovative design delivery, Sandeep Sharma said, “It becomes hard for industrial designers to work and satisfy the needs of all major stakeholders across the product lifecycle.

Their work includes executive management, marketing, engineering and manufacturing of innovative designs which are functional, manufacturable and affordable. Manufacturers must embrace technological advances to improve plant productivity and compete against rivals to maintain an edge with customers”. The Director of Tula’s Institute Pramod Kumar, head of Mechanical Engineering Department Ayushman Shrivastava and students and teachers were present on the occasion.
