Dashing hopes of many serving Assistant Professors working on contract, the medical education department would conduct permanent recruitment for the government medical colleges of the state. These Assistant Professors (contractual appointments) were hoping that the state government taking into account their services would be benevolent in its approach and would regularise their services. On the requisition of the medical education department, the Uttarakhand Medical Services Selection Board (UKMSSB) would soon invite applications from eligible candidates for 151 posts of Assistants Professors in all disciplines of medical sciences for three government colleges ( Haldwani, Srinagar and Dehradun) of the state.
The Chairman of the UKMSSB, Dr D S Rawat while talking to The Pioneer confirmed that the recruitment advertisement would soon be released. He said that the board has sought some clarification from the state administration on some points and once that is received, the advertisement would be released. Dr Rawat clarified that there would be no provision in the recruitment drive to provide benefit to the serving Assistant Professors working on contract as it would be discriminatory. He however added that if the government offers them some concessions and issues GO for the same then the board would follow the directive.
The open recruitment decision has not gone well with about 70 Assistant Professors (contractual appointments) working in these medical colleges. “We were appointed after a proper process in which every criterion like reservation was followed. For more than two years we have worked hard and ensured that the nascent medical college got the mandatory permission from the Medical Council of India for admission of MBBS students. At the time of recruitment we were told that our services would be regularized with time but now we have learnt that they are doing open recruitment for permanent posts,’’ said a dejected faculty member of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC).
