Dengue cases about to touch 100 mark

Published on:

Dengue cases in the city are closing in on the 100 mark as 11 new patients are getting treatment in Doon hospital here. The disease interestingly is returning to haunt the city after the health department claimed to control the disease. The district vector borne diseases officer J P Bahuguna said that 97 cases of dengue are reported in the city this year. He informed that no new case of Dengue was reported on Monday.

Bahuguna said that the department teams conducted extensive fogging in the Bramhawala and Brahamanwala areas of the city on Monday as new cases are reported from these localities. The department has taken blood samples of many fever patients in these localities for confirmatory Enzyme linked Immuno Sorbent Assay (ElISA).  In Doon hospital the patient count of admitted dengue patients has risen to 11. The hospital authorities have made special arrangements for these patients and have kept them in isolation wards.

Death of one girl and sudden spate in number of positive dengue cases has jolted the medical health department out of slumber. The sudden spurt in the cases of dengue is puzzling the experts as incidents of dengue become very less with the onset of winters. It is interesting to note that the health department abruptly changed the nodal officer of Dengue in the district and appointed Dr SS Kandari in place of Dr DK Chakrapani last month. Incidentally Dr Chakrapani was appreciated by the senior health department officials and health minister for effectively heading the anti dengue drive in the city before being unceremoniously removed.
