The vice-president of the State Congress party Surya Kant Dhasmana has said that the Congress party would observe fast outside the residence of Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat if dengue is not controlled soon in Dehradun. On Saturday, the Congress leader started a fast at the office of Director General (DG) health services, Dr R K Pandey in protest against what he termed failure of department to control the menace of the disease. On hearing about the fast, the DG came to the office (there was holiday on Saturday) and invited the congress leader for talks.

In the meeting, Dhasmana said that the health department is showing wrong data of dengue in Dehradun. He claimed that more than 50 people have so far succumbed to the disease in

Dehradun alone but the department is only confirming four deaths. The Congress leader demanded that the health department should conduct a survey of the dengue patients and bring out a clear picture.

He also said that in all the private hospitals and labs the blood tests of dengue affected people should be done on government rates. The Congress leader accused the health department for doing no preparation to deal with the disease.

The DG assured Dhasmana that the department is taking necessary action to address the issue.
