Demo against poor sanitary conditions in Pauri

The failure of the municipal authorities to ensure the desired level of civic sanitation in Pauri has remained a cause for concern. Hundreds of people residing in the lower Chopra staged a demonstration on Thursday at the district headquarters in Pauri against the Pauri Municipal Board, alleging that it is throwing garbage and waste along the slope of lower Chopra. They also protested against the construction of trenching ground in the residential area at the behest of the board.

The rally started from lower Chopra and ended in the Collectorate premises. The agitators said the area earmarked as the trenching  ground has a few colleges, church and residential houses in its vicinity.  The protestors had stopped the construction work on Wednesday. A memorandum was handed over to the sub-district magistrate P l Shah.  Then the protestors met district magistrate Chandra Sekhar Bhatt and demanded the trenching ground be shifted from the place and the municipal board be ordered to desist from dumping garbage and waste products in lower Chopra.

Bhatt assured that steps would be taken to redress their grievances. The women protestors alleged that the municipal board president Yashpal Benam had misbehaved with them when they went to put the matter before him. The people alleged that garbage and waste products are being thrown either in the night hours or early morning.
