Most of the 60 elected councillors of the BJP and Congress, after boycotting the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun board meeting on Thursday to protest against anomalies in execution of development works in the municipal wards, staged a demonstration at the MCD even as the board meeting was being held.
Protesting against the MCD administration, the councillors alleged that development works were not being facilitated in their wards for more than a year now. The protesting councillors alleged that their wards were being ignored and that they had not received any funds for development works in their wards in the last one and a half year which had stalled all development works in the wards. They also complained that effective action was not being taken against encroachments and many of the decisions taken in the last board meeting of the MCD had not been executed.
They stressed that facilitating development works was the main priority of the councillors but the corporation was apathetic to this. They further alleged that the board meeting held on Thursday was unconstitutional as the quorum had not been fulfilled, hence the decisions taken in the meet were also invalid. The protesting councillors also alleged misuse of funds on improper deals by the corporation.
