A Delhi resident working for the Delhi Development Authority was sentenced to life imprisonment by a CBI court here for murdering his wife and younger daughter some 26 years ago.

Sevaram Goyal, a resident of Uttam Nagar, Delhi, had arrived in Uttarakhand along with his father, wife Saroj and two daughters for Char Dham Yatra in June 1988. On June 29 that year, he lodged a missing report with the police in Haridwar about his wife Saroj and younger daughter Cheenu. However, the brother of Saroj filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a CBI inquiry of the case and after a favourable verdict by the court, the CBI inquiry ascertained Sevaram as the main accused in the murder of his wife and younger daughter. He was found guilty by the CBI court on Monday and he was sentenced to life imprisonment on Tuesday.
