A delegation of differently abled people from Uttarakhand met BJP’s National president Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday, demanding a Divyang Ayog and some amendments in Divyang Rights Act 2016.
In the memorandum they handed over to Shah, the delegation demanded the immediate formation of Divyang Ayog at the State level.
Speaking to The Pioneer, the State president of Devbhoomi Badhir Association Sandeep Arora said, “Our main demands include formation of state commission for differently abled persons, a university for them in Haridwar, reservation of seats for them from the Panchayat to the Parliamentary elections under the OBC reservation category.”
Besides, the delegation also demanded appointment of an interpreter in every government department for the people with special needs. Recruitment of two teachers from the group of the differently abled in every school has also been made in the memorandum.
The demand of the disabled people who cannot move being given online jobs and that of the pension amount meant for such people being raised to Rs 8000 figured in it.
“While 21 categories have been included in the Act there is no reservation for them on the same ratio,” said Arora, adding that those afflicted with diseases like Cancer and Parkinson’s being included in the category amounts to an insult to the differently abled people.
