Dehradun reels under heatwave

Published on:

Not accustomed to high temperature conditions, Doon residents prefer to remain indoors during daytime these days as the mercury is hovering around 40 degree C. There’s no reprieve for Doon valley from the sun as the mercury had scaled 40.1 degree C on Saturday making it the hottest day of the season.

The effect of the blazing sun is clearly visible on the lifestyle of the people of the Capital city. The streets and markets wore a deserted look during daytime and those who dared to venture out covered their heads and faces. The erratic power supplies are compounding the effect of heat wave condition.

Anita Rawat a resident of Clement town said that the State Government should ensure that power cuts do not take place during peak summer hours. The vendors selling cold drinks and juices are having roaring business as people are thronging them to get some relief. Scores of roadside vendors of water melon have suddenly emerged along the major roads of the city. One such vendor said “I brought a truck load of water melons from the mandi and all the stuff was sold out in only two days”.  Weather experts are predicting no let off from high temperature condition in next few days. The maximum and minimum temperatures on Monday are likely to be around 40 degree centigrade and 24 degree centigrade respectively. However the mountainous areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragargh districts are expected to receive very light rain with accompanying thunder showers at isolated places.
