Dehradun reels under waterlogging

Published on:

While the focus of the State machinery is on the disaster affected, little is being done to focus on the civic anomalies in the State capital Dehradun where many areas still experience waterlogging even after a few hours of rain.

The city received rainfall for a few hours on Monday which caused waterlogging in various areas. The residents of areas — including different localities in Clement Town and other parts of the city — have been demanding effective measures to prevent waterlogging following the hardships faced by people after the heavy rainfall on June 16-17.

Though the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun had started cleaning roadside drains to facilitate flow of the accumulated rainwater, not much has been achieved in this direction.

Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli said that many staff members of the MCD had been deployed in the disaster affected areas in the mountainous regions of Uttarakhand.

“This has affected our work in Dehradun but we will soon start working on these issues and resolve the problems in the near future,” he averred.

It should be noted that apart from the water logging problems, citizens have been complaining about anomalies in the civic sanitation works undertaken by MCD and the Doon Valley Waste Management company contracted for door to door collection of garbage and its disposal.

It now remains to be seen whether the municipal authorities are able to prevent the city from being damaged and save its residents from hardships the next time when the city experiences heavy rains.
