Dehradun Mayor reviews construction of solid waste management plant

The Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli expressed dissatisfaction at the pace of work at the underconstruction solid waste management plant at Shishambada. The Mayor along with officials of the municipal corporation of Dehradun visited the site of the plant on Thursday to review the progress of construction.

The Dehradun municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar Jogdande said that during his inspection visit to the Shishambada plant, the mayor had said that the pace of work was not satisfactory.

As the company in question is not being able to execute the work at the pace required to meet the deadline, the municipal corporation has also deputed its contractors to assist in construction of the plant.

It is pertinent to mention here that following the directions of the supreme court and the National Green Tribunal, the dumping of garbage at the existing trenching ground at Sahastradhara Road is to stop by December 1 when the new facility at Shishambada is also to start functioning. However, the company executing the work at Shishambada has not been able to meet the expectations of the municipal authorities. The MCD is focusing its efforts on getting the new waste management facility working by December 1.
