Dehradun civic bodies often at loggerheads

In view of the frequent differences between the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun and the Doon Valley Waste Management company, the corporation has decided to monitor the work and expenditure of the company.

The company officials had recently said that the company is incurring a loss which is affecting its task of collecting and disposing garbage in Dehradun. It should be mentioned here that the MCD administration and DVWM officials have been having differences of late.

Recently, the MCD had served notice to the company which had stopped collection and disposal of garbage for a day citing unpaid dues and loss. However, the corporation officials point out that apart from the monthly payment of Rs20 lakh, the corporation also pays Rs20 lakh to the company in tipping fees every month.

As the company is said to spend about Rs36 lakh under different heads including salaries to its staff, the corporation officials have refuted the possibility of loss being sustained by the company.

The corporation already has a committee which will now monitor the functioning and expenditure incurred by the company in order to clarify the situation and avoid differences in the future. This is also aimed at ensuring efficient work by the company.
