Public Works Department (PWD) has decided to black list contractors, who failed to meet the requirments, on the charge of negligence, to teach them a lesson.
Officials claimed that more than one-dozen contractors were debarred participation in upcoming construction bids by the department. Even after missing deadlines on several occasions, the nodal agencies responsible for repairing roads and bridges failed to complete the beneficiary project in the given time frame. Besides, lack of coordination among the government departments and nodal agencies is also responsible for poor condition of roads in the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand as newly constructed and repaired roads are normally dig up by other agencies in the name of completing other beneficiary projects. The worst affected areas are the mountainous parts of the state.
The recently prepared list by the department of the contractors to be blacklisted includes contractors involved in the construction of Tyuni-Kathiyan route and Chakrata-lakhamandal route under Dehradun division, construction of bridge between Phoolchatti-Kharbabli and Dharasu-Chinyalisaud-Jogatmatta road under Uttarkashi division, Rudraprayag-Gaurikund route, Ryadi-Arkund route, Gegadkhal-Jawadi route under Rudraprayag division, Sarmolia-Rano route under Pokhari division, Molkakhal-Teela route under Srinagar division, Naisailkan-Maithyali route under Tehri-II division, Panaisibhi-Uttaranon route and lwani-Sana route under Pokhari division, Sama-Naukdhi route under Kapkot division and Devipura-Saud route under Nainital route.
Ironically, two routes are also badly affected in Dehradun district and need immediate repair for ensuring the better vehicular flow in the region. The condition of roads across the capital city is also worst due to the ongoing work of laying sewage pipelines in the city. One of the official on the condition of anonymity told The Pioneer that the stern action would surely be taken against those contractors, who fail to meet the rquirements. He said that repairing of roads normally starts after receiving the closure reports by the different nodal agencies.
"Stern instructions have been regularly issued to the nodal agencies for completing all the beneficiary projects in the given time frame in order to avoid inconvenience to patients," he said, adding that all those contractors who fail to give quality work in the given time frame would be blacklisted as well.
