In a two day-workshop on skill development in waste management as per waste management rules 2016, Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik said that to keep the city clean, the onus lies on the municipal corporation but this does not mean that the whole system of waste management can be tackled by a single official or a workman rather it is a teamwork. He said it was all the more necessary in a city like Haridwar where millions of tourists come during festivals. Every workman should do his duty with responsibility, then alone something can be achieved
Pointing to the announcement made by the State Government for rewarding the urban local bodies which achieve among top positions in the national rankings, he said that one has to work with dedication to come in that list. He said that because of the mismanagement, such targets were not being achieved in Haridwar. Citing the example of Indore city, Kaushik said that it had the same resources as Haridwar but it had topped in cleanliness while Haridwar was lagging behind.
He also said that Petroleum ministry was interested in generating fuel from the plastic waste collected in the district and purchase it too. If this could materialise, there would be additional income for the municipal corporation. Municipal commissioner Uday Rana and other officials of the corporation were also present during the workshop.
