The District and Sessions judge pronounced the death sentence for Sahaspur residents Sushil and Mehtab in the gang-rape cum murder of around 55-year-old woman in the forest area under Sahaspur Police Station on December 29, 2012. The special court of ADJ Amit Kumar Sirohi had earlier found the duo guilty in this case on January 23.
The court convicted both the accused under sections 376 and 302 of the IPC. It should be mentioned here that on the day of the incident, both the accused had consumed liquor and had gone to the jungle in the locality where she had gone to collect firewood. In an inebriated condition, the accused had overpowered the woman and raped her and inflicted deep bite marks on her face. When the old woman screamed, Sushil strangled her.
Taking cognisance of this case, the Dehradun Police had arrested two accused of raping and murdering the woman within few of the incident. The police had recovered the earrings of the victim from the accused. It was revealed during the course of investigation that the accused knew the victim quite well and often used to visit her. The duo had admitted their offense.
