Some college staffers  and students were injured after PAC jawans allegedly used force to disperse students who scuffled with the jawans  in the DAV (PG) College campus around noon on Friday. Demands raised for removing the PAC contingent from the campus, Dehradun SP City PK Rai said that it would not be removed till the student union election is over. He, however, assured that the   PAC jawans presently posted would  be replaced with a  new team of jawans.

Devendra Bhasin, the acting principal of the college, said that some college staffers and students have been  injured in lathi-charge resorted to by the PAC jawans. “Some students met me and submitted a memorandum, demanding removal of PAC from the college campus. We have forwarded the complaint to the administrative officer concerned,” he added.

On Friday, the college was abuzz with activities as students were busy in getting admission in Bachelor and post- graduation courses. Many of the students who are connected with several students groups were found  helping the new students to get enrolled so as to ensure that they vote for the candidates they would support during the ensuing  student union election. With such students engaged in sloganeering, students of two rival groups scuffled among   themselves, prompting the  PAC jawans to intervene. This was followed by some students arguing and later manhandling  the jawans. PAC jawans restored to lathi-charge to disperse the students, leaving  some  college staffers and students injured. Chaos prevailing, the scared  girls were found running  to save themselves. Some fell  on the ground too. The angry students gheraoed the principal, demanding the  PAC jawans  be removed from the campus and threatening to shut down the college if their demand was not met.  The president of the college students’ union Rahul Kumar said that two students had  been injured in the lathicharge. “The PAC jawans must be removed from the college, he added.

However, Dalanwala police station officer Yashpal Singh Bisht said that no one has been injured and no complaint has been reported over this matter so far.
