DAV, DBS to have evening classes on self-finance mode

The State Government issued orders allowing DAV (PG) College and DBS (PG) College to conduct evening classes on self-finance mode. DAV (PG) College principal Devendra Bhasin said that college had decided to allow 3,850 students to enroll in different under graduate self finance courses in evening classes and for this, college would soon take permission from the Garhwal Central University.

However, some student leaders said that they have decided to protest against introduction of evening classes on self finance mode in the college. According to them, college will remain closed on Monday in support of the demand for increasing the seats for different bachelor degree courses and withdrawing the decision to introduce evening classes on self finance mode.

NSUI member Sandeep Kumar said that principal should withdraw his decision on releasing merit list for allocated seats as large number of students belonging to remote areas of the State will be deprived of admission in the college.

He alleged that even though around 15 days have passed after the reopening of the college, the admission process has not started. The college administration has delayed admission process so that they can introduce evening classes on self finance mode. He alleged that to earn revenue, the college management has decided to introduce evening classes on self finance mode and later State Government has approved it. Now students will have to pay high admission and tuition fee to complete their higher education. He questioned how a poor student will be able to complete higher education with such high fee structureIJ

Another student leader said that the university had allocated around 12,000 seats for different graduate and post graduate courses in the year 1999 but after the formation of the State, college management had never written a letter to the University for increasing seats in the college. According to him, college will remain closed unless demands are met.

Bhasin expressed satisfaction over Government’s order on allowing the college to conduct evening classes and said that college will reopen from Monday and internal examinations for post graduation courses will be conducted. According to him, university has already allocated 3,850 seats for different bachelor degree courses and a proposal for same number of seats for under graduate courses will be sent to the University for Evening Classes. College will soon decide admission fee and tuition fee for under-graduate courses.

In another development, NSUI member Swati Negi met the Dehradun SSP Kewal Khurana on Sunday evening and demanded arrest of NSUI member Raman Bisht who had shot at NSUI members Pradeep Tiwari and Navdeep Negi three days ago.
