State Government bowed down before the student leaders by directing the DAV (PG) College and DBS (PG) College principals to follow last year’s admission procedure for different bachelor degree courses this year.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna announced this to maintain a "healthy atmosphere in these colleges".
He has given directions for both day and evening classes. He has asked Garhwal Central University to make arrangements for as many admissions as there were last year.
In DAV (PG) College, around 12,000 students had got admission against 3750 seats allocated by University in the last year while around 950 students were allowed to enroll against 557 allocated seats in DBS (PG) College.
In both the colleges, the fees for the evening classes would be the same as that of day classes.
In a meeting attended by chief secretary Subhash Kumar, principal Secretary Rakesh Sharma and education principal secretary Radha Raturi among others held with the representatives of the different students unions, the CM has asked them to maintain peace in the college and ensure that studies are not affected.
He added that the fees for the evening classes would be same as that during the day. The students can be affiliated to Sri Dev Suman University while their examination centre would be in DAV (PG) College itself.
Directions will be given to organise examinations in DAV College and DBS College through Sri Dev Suman University from next year. Announcing this decision, the student leaders called off their strike on Thursday evening, said DBS (PG) College student leader Pradeep Kumar.
He expressed thanks to the chief minister for fulfilling students’ demands.
DBS (PG) College Principal OP Kulshrestha said that college will open from Friday with the start of admission process. DAV (PG) College Devendra Bhasin said that he has receivedChief Minister’s letter and forwarded to the college management. The admission process will start from Friday.
