DAV College unlikely to see polls soon

Published on:

With the students’ union election in DAV (PG) College being postponed for three days by the order issued by the district magistrate on Tuesday, it is unlikely that the elections would be held soon. As per the lyngdoh Committee Recommendations, the college administration should conduct its union election within 45 days after the college opens after a vacation.

As things stand now, neither the college staff nor the students hope that the election would be held soon.    DM Chandresh Kumar Yadav has ordered magisterial inquiry into the alleged irregularities in distribution of college identity cards in the college. NS Dangi has been asked to investigate and to submit report within 15 days.

Meanwhile, ABVP activists demonstrated against the State Government, alleging that it had played a role in keeping election postponed in DAV (PG) College. Senior ABVP leader Jitendra Singh Rawat Moni alleged that DM Yadav has taken the decision on being coaxed by Congress satraps, including the Chief Minister. This was because NSUI candidates keep on losing elections here for the past several years, he added. ABVP activists took out a mock funeral procession of the Chief Minister in protest.

However, congregating at the college campus, NSUI members held the College principal responsible for the irregularities in the distribution of college identity cards along with ABVP members and sympathiasers.

They further said they will continue protesting against college principal’s pro-ABVP attitude and prevailing disorders in the college. Meanwhile, a meeting of the college teaching staff with the college principal was held at the auditorium on Wednesday. The DM’s decision of a magisterial inquiry into irregularities in distribution of college identity cards figured in the meeting. It was decided that a delegation of teaching staff will meet the DM on Thursday.

The election officer RK Pathak said, “There were no irregularities involving the distribution of college identity cards in the college. We were ready to conduct the election as all the preparations were duly completed. We wonder why the DM postponed the election by three days.” A day after the election was postponed; a blame game between the college staff and administrative officers has ensued. Additional DM Pratap Singh Shah said when pressed by the media to clarify things, “We have just implemented the DM’s direction. You had better ask him when the election would be held in the college.”
