DAV College teachers ignore principal's fiat over Govt order

Published on:

DAV (PG) College principal Devendra Bhasin implemented the Government order on Monday and directed teachers to sign the attendance register twice and remain in their respective departments for at least five hours in a day.

However, college teachers refused to obey principal's order and demanded provision of basic amenities like hygienic college campus and toilets, drinking water and others on campus before implementing Government order.

A general meeting of college teaching staff was held on Monday and members discussed the GO and other issues. College Teacher Union leader DK Tyagi said that teachers had demanded that Bhasin provide basic amenities before implementing GO in the college.

According to him, college does not have enough class rooms and furniture to accommodate 30,000 enrolled students. The teachers have decided to sit on demonstration in campus unless their demands are addressed within two days. Tyagi said that several decisions on GO are violating University Act for affiliated colleges.

Bhasin said, "I have implemented GO in the college and I stand by it unless Government makes some changes in GO." As per the GO, the Government fixed 15 days maximum in a year for college teachers to attend national seminars or workshops.

College principal has been made responsible for college related activities. Higher education director will sanction leave for college principal and such information should be provided to district magistrate concerned.

The college principal will keep record of all the college expenses. The principal has been directed to take steps for promoting academic atmosphere and research related activities. The college principals have been directed to ensure that students are carrying college identity card in the campus.
