DAV College students on stir, demand re-examination

Demanding that the students who have not appeared in their internal examination to be given a chance to reappear, scores of DAV (PG) College students’ leaders staged a stir in the college campus on Monday. The protesters submitted a memorandum demanding such permission to the college principal.

NSUI members led by its leader Vikas Negi assembled at the college campus and shouted slogans against the college administration for not going for an internal examination for those students who could not have appeared in the same due to some reasons. later they met the college principal and submitted a memorandum to him, urging him to meet their demand promptly.

Negi said that the college administration should already have gone for the internal re-examination they had been demanding. “They should have done it in the interests of the students who have failed to appear in the written as well as the practical examination owning to some reasons. They should not be made to suffer. Unless they do it the students’ academic future would be adversely impacted.  They will lose a precious year consequently,” he added.

Critics opine that HNB Garhwal University has directed the college principals to ensure that the students with over 75 percent class attendance should be allowed to appear in the internal and main examination. “However, unfortunately, in most of the colleges, such direction is not being implemented as it ought to be. But, at the same time, those whose attendance is not satisfactory should be debarred from appearing in such re-examinations when arranged.

The trend of the college principals bowing down to the pressure put up by the students’ leaders is a bad precedent. The university guidelines should be followed strictly and all the students being indiscriminately allowed to appear in the re-examinations regardless of their attendance percentage would weaken the quality of education from within,” one of them said.
