DAV (PG) College principal Dr Devendra Bhasin was allegedly questioned by the police regarding the alleged irregularity in the admission process in the college. College students’ union president Rakesh Singh Negi had written to city magistrate lalit Narayan Mishra, seeking a fair inquiry into the malpractice haunting admissions in various degree courses in the college during the current academic session.
Dalanwala Police Station in-charge inspector Anil Kumar Joshi said that the Principal Dr Bhasin was called for questioning over a complaint registered by college students’ union president Negi. Bhasin was asked to show necessary documents related to this complaint were collected. A report will be sent to city magistrate after conducting a thorough probe into the case, he added.
Negi had alleged that Bhasin had been flouting the High Court’s order which states that admission in the college must be held based on merit basis only.
According to Negi, Bhasin had pressured the head of the department, Sociology to enroll a student Mansi Bhandari in MA first year, though her name did not figure in the merit list. Several such admissions might have been done in the college, he alleged, adding that a fair probe should be ordered to nail responsibility. The student leader also demanded removal of principal from the post, saying that he might influence the inquiry, using his position. According to Joshi, head of department of sociology will also be grilled on Friday.
City magistrate Mishra said that he had received a complaint from the students’ leader Negi. Police station officer has been directed to conduct thorough investigation and, if needed, FIR would be lodged in the police station, he added.
