DAV admin worried over NSUI, ABVP scuffles

Published on:

Recent scuffles between the leaders of National Students Union of India (NSUI) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) just before the students' union election in the DAV (PG) College have become a headache for the administration. A major scuffle broke out between NSUI and ABVP members in which ABVP leader Rahul Roy was injured and admitted to the Doon Hospital where he got several stitches on his head.

The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyaya has demanded a fair inquiry into this incident from Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Rautela and stated that those found guilty — either NSUI or ABVP members —should be punished.

Sources said that the restaurant belong to ruling party which is why they are putting pressure over the police to probe the matter.

With the start of admission process in DAV (PG) College, two incidents of scuffles between the NSUI and ABVP members were reported near Congress Bhawan campus on Sunday and Old Survey Road on Monday. Dalanwala Police station in charge inspector Anil Joshi said that over minor issues, scuffles took place between ABVP and NSUI members who had gone to a restaurant located at Rajpur Road on Sunday wherein NSUI members were beaten by ABVP members. In revenge, NSUI members attacked Rahul Roy at his home on Monday evening.

Observers say that ABVP and NSUI members have no fear of police because they are being patronised by senior leaders of the BJP and Congress. Police do not take action against student leaders guilty of violating the law for fear of being pressurised by the senior leaders of both the parties. With the students union election inching nearer, such scuffles are also expected in the near future. Scuffles between the NSUI and ABVP members have become headache for

the police.

Dalanwala inspector Joshi said that a information about scuffles between ABVP and NSUI members was received from Old Survey Road on Mondayevening. In the scuffle, ABVP's Rahul Roy was injured and later administered stitches on his head at the Doon Hospital. Rahul's father Ganesh Ram, resident of Old Survey Road registered a complaint in the police station stating that NSUI members led by Vinit Bhatt had attacked his son while he was at home. Taking cognisance of this complaint, a case under sections 147, 148, 452 and 307 of IPC against Vinit Bhatt and other NSUI members was registered in the police station on Tuesday.

Earlier on Sunday, scuffle between NSUI and ABVP members was reported near Congress Bhawan. ABVP members had lodged an FIR under sections 147, 323, 504 and 506 of IPC against Vinit Bhatt and other NSUI members in Kotwali Police station while NSUI members had lodged a counter FIR against ABVP member Mukesh and others under sections 147, 452 and 427 of IPC in the Kotwali Police station on Monday, said Kotwali police station in charge inspector SS Bisht.

Meanwhile, in order to restore confidence among the students about their security, additional forces were deployed in the DAV (PG) College campus and Dalanwala police took out a flag march on Tuesday.

SSP Ajay Rautela said that two incidents of scuffles between NSUI and ABVP members were reported and FIRs were lodged in Kotwali and Dalanwala police stations. Police officers have been directed to take action against the accused after conducting

thorough inquiry of these cases, he added.

Rautela further said that in order to maintain law and order situation, police post has been established and two platoons of PAC jawans have also been deployed at DAV (PG) College. Dalanwala police station officers have been directed to intensify patrolling in the DAV (PG) College and DBS (PG) College area to prevent untoward incidents and take action against those persons who take law in their hands, he added.
