Dates for notification, Panchayat election out

The dates for notification and polling for the Panchayat election in Uttarakhand were announced by the State Election Commissioner. The State Government will issue a notification on December 9 and the polling will be held in three stages beginning January 11, 2014.

The polling schedule had to be deferred by some days as the rapid survey and reservation of constituencies could not be facilitated due to the strike by State Government employees, said the SEC Subardhan on Tuesday.

He said, “The State Government will issue the Panchayat election notification on December 9 after which the State Election Commssion will issue the notification on December 10 and the district magistrates will issue the necessary notices on December 11.

The nominations for the election will be held from December 18 to 21 and these will be scrutinised on December 22, 23, 24 and 26. The withdrawal of nominations will be allowed on December 27. The election symbols will be allocated to candidates in three stages: on December 28, January 1, 2014 and January 4.”

He said that polling for the Panchayat elections will be held in three stages on January 11, 15 and 18.

The counting will be held on January 22, 23 and 24, a couple of days after which the results will be declared. The Uttarakhand SEC said that the election schedule was deferred by a few days because the rapid survey and reservation of constituencies could not be completed due to the strike of State Government employees.
