People here are trudging extra miles and facing problems in supply of ration due to roads being damaged since heavy rains caused destruction in the district last month.
The closure of roads is preventing supply of ration to the villages due to which residents have to face risks in getting the ration using dangerous routes. Many roads and pedestrian paths in the region have been closed since disaster while many bridges have been washed away. The work of reconstructing roads and bridges will take the department some time during which the villagers have to take the risk of using unsafe paths. The Joshimath-Malari road has been closed for about a month.
This has broken land link with all border area villages in Malari and Niti. Both the army and locals are facing problems due to this. The highway from Joshimath to Badrinath is also closed due to damage at many points including Pandukeshwar and lambagad.
The bridge at lambagad was washed away due to which resuming traffic on this road will take more time. Of the 24 roads under Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana in Chamoli district, 17 are closed to traffic while 39 of the 99 roads under the PWD are also closed. However, alternative arrangements have been made for pedestrians.
