Dak Kanwad gaining momentum in the holy city, an unceasing flow is being seen on the highways and Kanwad Patri Marg (canal route) these days. Riding on motor cycles, trucks, tractor trolleys, hybrid tractors and other big vehicles with DJ music systems blaring from the vehicle tops, Kanwadias are swooping on the city in their thousands. The highways, Nehar Patri Marg, connecting roads and by-pass roads are chock- a- block with the pilgrims, though Dak Kanwad comes mainly on the national highways .
“This time, the influx pattern is changing a lot. The turnout is also exceeding our expectation. Earlier, the pattern was 70 percent Kanwadia coming on foot while the rest coming on two-wheelers and other vehicles. But this time, the percentage of both is equal. However, in the next two days, Dak Kanwad would take over,” said a trader based in Moti bazar Harveer Singh.
With Bairagi camp parking lot being full to its capacity of giving space to 30,000 vehicles, the thing is almost the same for Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay parking space. “If the need arises we would use Pant Dweep and Chamgadar Tapu for parking the vehicles,” said the SSP Krishna Kumar V K.
With the police having gone for route diversions in view of the rising rush of the two-wheeler-borne Dak Kanwadias, the movement of the heavy vehicles remains stopped on the national highway.
