The officials of Bank Fraud Complaint Cell of Cyber Crime Police Station claimed to have recovered Rs11, 61, 961 lost due to fraudulent bank transactions in three months from January 1 and returned the sum to the complainants thanks to the cell’s prompt response to the complaints received by it. STF, Uttarakhand SSP P Renuka Devi said on Sunday that they are leaving no stone unturned to crack such cases at the earliest.
She said that after receiving complaints, FIRs are registered in the cyber crime police station after which the officials are deputed to crack the cases promptly.
The sum recovered by the officers of the cell was lost in lottery fraud, insurance fraud, job fraud, online shopping through ATMs and others recorded by many at Bank Fraud Complaint Cell of Cyber Crime Police Station from January 1 to March 31, 2017 from various parts of the state, she said, adding that the recovery figure in 2016 was Rs58 lakh.
While highlighting one of such instances, she stated that after receiving complaint from Aas Mohammad, a case (FIR-4/2017) under section 420 of IPC AND 66 C, D of IT Act was registered against unidentified persons in the cyber crime police station. “Complainant Aas Mohammad stated that his company’s email ID was hacked by unidentified persons and Rs 1.10 crore was transferred in one of bank accounts of Barclays Bank, United Kingdom. Case was registered in police station and the team formed acted swiftly to recover Rs67 lakh out of Rs1.10 crore lost due to fraudulent bank transactions.
The remaining sum would be recovered soon as the team formed is working hard on it,” she said.
Renuka further said that the number of bank fraud cases and crimes on social networking are decreasing due to awareness campaign being conducted across the state.
The same would continue now in schools, colleges and offices of various departments in the state, she said.
Renuka said that whenever such frauds are detected, those at the receiving end should promptly approach the police station concerned or Bank Fraud Complaint Cell of Cyber Crime Police Station.
The sooner they approach us or the police the greater is the possibility of the stolen money being recovered,” she added.
