Cut in State's share from Central pool hits power supply

The reduced power generation by the Central Government-owned power stations resulted in a curtailment of the State Government’s share of power from the central pool on Thursday. The State received only 11.42 Million Units of power from Central pool which is much less than the normal supply of 16 MUs. Due to the reduced supplies from the central pool the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) forced a power cut of two hours in the non-continuous industry of SIDCUl Haridwar on Thursday, similarly a power outage of one hour was taken in the rural areas of Udham Singh Nagar and non continuous industry of SIDCUl Pantnagar.

The UPCl spokesperson Madhusudan said that the hydro power stations of State generated 15.24 MU of power on Wednesday. The 198 MW Kalagarh and 42 MW Khatima hydro power stations did not generated any power on Thursday. Due to reduced flow of water in the rivers the 90 MW Maneri Bhali generated only 65 MW while 240 MW Chibro power station generated only 110 MW power on Thursday. A technical snag in the 144 Cheela power station resulted in a generation of only 67 MW on Thursday.

To meet the requirement arising out of reduced power generation from the hydro power stations the UPCl has entered into an agreement with neighboring HP in which the State would purchase power till September 30. The UPCl is purchasing power worth Rs 66 lakhs- 1 crore daily from Himachal Pradesh.
