There is a time to use oil carefully.  It is also time to switch over to newer technologies, he added.

Delivering the lecture, Jean Paul Margotin said IFPEN and AXENs India has worked to sell the latest technologies in India and has sold ~70 projects in India and are planning to sell more with the help of IIP.

Dr Garg, Director, IIP informed the audience that for setting up IIP, CSIR entered into an agreement with ‘Instut Francais du Petrole’ (IFP), which was the premier institute of France and indeed of Europe, in the petroleum sector. Institute started functioning on April 14, 1960 so since then the day is being celebrated as its foundation day.

The institute has been contributing to the growth of petroleum refining and petrochemical industry for last 53 years. Its charter includes functions, amongst others, to undertake R&D work in refining petroleum, natural gas and petrochemicals, utilization of petroleum and its products in IC engines and in industrial and domestic combustion.

In addition it undertakes market-surveys and techno-economic feasibility studies in these fields; develop human resources for the hydrocarbon and related industries in the country by training their personnel through specialized training courses and assisting the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in formulating standards for petroleum products. During these five decades IIP has developed about 78 Technologies/processes/ products.
