Crimes in the areas under the jurisdiction of the revenue police in Pauri district are increasing compared to crimes in areas under regular police. The reason for this is that Patwaris have to undertake both policing and revenue works.
On Sunday, a 70 year old woman was stabbed in Gram-Panchayat Kalurd of Patti Khatsyun by four persons who were handed over to the revenue police by the villagers. Sub Divisional Magistrate Pl Shah said that the four youth were produced in the court and two accused Dharmendra and Anshul Bisht were sent to judicial custody for 14 days, while other two were found to be underage and sent to the juvenile home. Shah said that the four youth came to Prakash Singh's house in the Sirkil village on Sunday afternoon and requested the family to show them the route to another place.
Purva Devi w/o late Bachan Singh went with them to show the route but on the way, the four youth stabbed the old woman and snatched her ornaments, according to her daughter in law Shashi. When Purva Devi didn't return home Shashi went to look for her and found her body after which the villagers caught the four culprits who were then arrested by the revenue police. The SDM said that he will request the District Magistrate to transfer the case to the regular police.
