The President of City Bus Association Vijay Vardhan Dandariyal has alleged that the City Patrol Unit (CPU) personnel and traffic police are illegally slapping penalties on the drivers of City buses.
He said that the CPU and traffic police has recently slapped penalties on 14 city buses for not wearing proper uniforms, 10 panelties for not providing tickets to passengers and 33 penalties for not keeping first aid boxes in the buses.
He said association has filed a Right to Information (RTI) query in which it was revealed that such penalties can be slapped only by the Regional Transport Office officials.
The President of the association said that the police officers can slap penalties (Chalans) on offences like driving a vehicle without number plate, driving vehicle at a speed more than the prescribed limit, driving without helmet, driving without wearing seat belt and driving vehicle despite being not in physical or mental position for it.
Dandariyal alleged that the Regional Transport Office officials are aware of the fact that the police officers are not eligible to slap chalans but they prefer to look other way.
He threatened that the association would now knock at the door of the High Court and plead that the money of the illegal chalans should be deducted from the salaries of the offending policemen.
