To lift the vehicles parked along the no-traffic-zone areas and to impose penalty under Motor Vehicle (MV) Act on the traffic violators, City Patrol Unit will be equipped with cranes and forklifts. Earlier, State police had established City Patrol Unit in Dehradun and Haridwar to enforce traffic regulations and to act as swift response team regarding crimes like chain snatching, eve-teasing and other offences in the assigned areas.
State Director General of Police (DGP) BS Sidhu who inspected the cranes which were brought at PHQ from the district directed the police officers to repair the damaged small and big cranes at the earliest. Due to lack of cooperation from the district, the CPU members are said to be facing problems to launch the drive in the no-traffic-zone areas to impose challans against the violators who park their vehicles in the city.
All the cranes brought thus should be repaired before these cranes are handed over to CPU members, he said, adding that he would would inspect these cranes on October 21. District police are free to launch such drives in their district, he said. DGP Sidhu appreciated the works done by the CPU members and directed Nivedita Kukreti, nodal officer of the CPU, to minitor CPU works effectively. DIG Amit Sinha was also present on the occasion.
