CPU gets training to help accident victims

In order to provide first aid to the injured persons after accidents on roads, around 50 members of City Patrol Unit were given training on basic life support (first aid) in a private hospital in Dehradun on Friday.

However, in the absence of Government rules and manuals of CPU and its personnel’s uniform, some CPU personnel sounded apprehensive about their future posting when State Director General of Police (DGP) BS Sidhu who is instrumental in these matters, retires from his post.

Sidhu said that life of the injured persons after an accident on the road can be saved if they are provided first medical aid by the responder (Police, CPU personnel) or admitted in a specialised hospital.

Due to lack of knowledge about medical aid or specialised hospital, it has been observed that many injured persons die as they are neither provided first medical aid nor are they admitted in a hospital.

“Keeping this in view, we have decided to organise a training programme on ‘life Saving Support (first aid) in disaster, trauma and accident’ for City Patrol Unit personnel in collaboration with a private hospital,” he said.

CPU personnel of Haridwar and Dehradun are attending the two-day long training programme in Dehradun. Another 55 CPU personnel would be given training on Saturday.

CPU personnel would get specialised medical kit from the hospital too. “CPU personnel were selected, based on their physical tests and interviews and they had undergone training on policing and traffic rules. Now we have decided to provide training to CPU personnel, as they are first responder on road to save human life,” he added.

Sidhu further said that SDRF personnel who have been deployed in rescue and relief operation in the aftermath of disaster in the mountainous parts of the State would also be given training on Basic life Support soon.

Moreover, Cheetah policemen and city patrol car personnel would also be given such training in future, as they are also deployed as first responder after the occurrence of accident on roads, he added.

In another development, DGP Sidhu arranged screening of a movie named ‘Chaar Sahabzade’ in a private cinema hall for around 100 students of ‘Raphael’- the Ryder Cheshire International Centre Dehradun on Friday.

Since this film is inspirational, the State Government has exempted tax for screening the movie. “This movie gives us lesson - one can achieve goal if he is determined to do so,” he added.
