CPU blocking smooth traffic in city?

Published on:

The traffic was moving at snail’s pace because City Patrol Unit (CPU) was deployed to man the traffic at Mohkampur on Sunday. Due to this one kilometre long traffic jam was witnessed on either side of the road. When The Pioneer enquired about long traffic jam then they said that it happened because of Raksha Bandhan.

Interestingly, except the Mohkampur, no other places suffered severe traffic jam in and around the city. It has raised question whether CPU personnel are actually trained on how to man trafficIJ If not then why they were deployed at Mohkampur on SundayIJ To help the hapless motorists stuck in the jam The Pioneer made a phone call to the emergency number 100 and then SSP Ajay Rautela at 4.49 pm, but things did not improve because of ill trained CPU.

In a bid to decongest the road, Uttarakhand police had deployed the ill-trained personnel of CPU at the Mohkampur railway crossing,  which was formed to respond swiftly to crimes like chain snatching, eve teasing and to penalise the motorists in case they violate traffic rule.

They were behaving like that they will man the traffic amicably. In this process they imposed an unwritten order that only two vehicles one each from either side can cross railway crossing at one time.

Even they stand in the middle of the road outside State Meteorological centre (SMC) so that traffic which was coming from Dehradun slowed down and jam was witnessed up to Jogiwala police post.

The traffic, which was coming from Hardiwar also got stuck and jam witnessed up to shooter Abhinav Bindra’s farm house. Initially, Jogiwala police post in-charge was seen standing at the crossing in civil dress but when he realised that they would not be able to man the traffic then he left the venue and entire traffic was manned by two CPU personnel.

Ironically, people who dared to visit their near and dear ones, were seen moving at snail’s pace as if they had made a blunder by coming on this route.Incidentally motorists had to cross Abhinav Bindra’s farm house to Mohkampur railway crossing or Jogiwala to Mohkampur railway crossing in more than 30 minutes while the one kilometre distance can be crossed in less than two minutes.

When The Pioneer enquired with the police personnel at Jogiwala then they said that traffic jam occurred due to Raksha Bandhan only.Although they failed to answer that why such traffic jam not witnessed in other parts of the city. Talking to The Pioneer SSP Rautela said that he would enquire about the cause of the traffic jam.

Meanwhile, people who were either going to Haridwar from Dehradun or coming to Dehradun from Haridwar were crying for help but they were helpless because of adamant attitude of the CPU personnel, who refused to allow more than two vehicles at one time from either side and jam reached up to Jogiwala police post and Bindra farm.
