Twenty-fourth district convention of the Dehradun unit of the Students Federation of India, CPI-M’s student affiliate, was held at the Press Club on Monday with the leaders renewing their pledge to carry on with their struggle against the capitalists and imperialists in tune with the basic tenets of revolutionary Communism.

Sathi lekhraj , regional vice- president, said after inaugurating the convention that they should not lose the revolutionary fervor of struggling for the cause of the unprivileged, for the youths and against the government going fast to commercialize and privatize education. He asked the Modi Government to account for its failure to act on the pledges it had made to the youths of opening the floodgates  of employment ahead of the 2014 general election. “Narendra Modi also assured the youth that he would ensure affordable education.  But after coming to power, he is hell-bent on  handing the country’s education system to the private and foreign hands,” he said.

The acting district president Vipin Joshi presented the report which demanded Government-run dormitory for the students, increased seats in the degree colleges located across  all the districts, fee structure of Doon University in line with JNU,  construction of Gender Sensitization Committee in every government-run and private educational institution and 50 percent discount on the fares of buses and rickshaws for the students.
