The three principal communist parties – Communist Party of India (CPI), CPI (Marxist) and CPI (Marxist leninist)- would contest from 25 Vidhan Sabha seats in the state jointly. “Our main focus would be on the worsening condition of the farmers and the working class people of the state with the state’s two main parties-Congress and BJP-remaining busy in looting the state of its immense natural and other resources,” said Indresh Maikhuri of CPI (Ml).

The state secretary of the CPI, Anand Singh Rana, said that all the three communist parties have decided to jointly contest the Vidhan Sabha polls slated in 2017. Their election campaign would be held in an integrated manner across the state. These parties would field their candidates on as many as 25 Vidhan Sabha seats in almost all the 13 districts of the state. On the remaining seats, they would support strong candidate of any parties or independent candidates who can defeat Bharatiya Janata Party or Congress candidates in the election.

For this, a meeting will be held among the leaders of these three parties and name of candidates with strong chances of victory will be disclosed constituency-wise once the process of filing nomination papers is completed, he added.

The state secretary of the CPI (M), Rajendra Singh Negi said that considering the kind of political culture, both the national parties – the BJP and Congress had developed over the 16 years since the creation of Uttarakhand as a State, there is a vital need to bring about the desired change in the shape of the Vidhan Sabha.
