As regards the court directing the Dehradun district SSP to lodge an FIR against Premnagar police station in-charge and sub-inspector over the alleged beating of an accused of land forgery case in police custody, SSP Dr Sadanand Date said on Tuesday that he is seeking legal advice and they might file a review petition in the court over the same.
SSP has been directed to submit report by June 16. The court also directed the health department to conduct an inquiry into the role of the team of three doctors formed by CMO, Doon Hospital which had conducted medical checkup of the accused.
The court has taken strong exception to an accused being subjected to physical beating by police officers while he was in the police custody.
Notably, Dehradun police had arrested liyakat Ali, resident of Bara Bharuwala, who was allegedly involved in a land fraud case. Police had taken Ali on police remand for four hours on May 24.
Police sent the accused Ali in Suddhowala jail after conducting his medical test in a government hospital. But the allegation runs that the police station in-charge Yashpal Bisht and investigating officer had brought the accused in police station before the accused was sent to jail. In Premnagar police station, the accused was allegedly beaten up by police officers. It has been said that jail officials had provided medical treatment to the accused in jail hospital.
On May 30, a team of judicial officers had reached Suddhowala jail, inspected the campus and asked the inmates about their conditions. Ali had informed the judicial officers about his condition while narrating how he had been beaten by the police when he was taken into police custody.
On May 31, an advocate on the behalf of accused’s wife had submitted a plea in the court following which the court had sought report regarding the same from the SSP on June 7. SSP had submitted the report on June 10.
The court directed the police to register a case against Premnagar police station in-charge and a sub-inspector allegedly involved in the case.
