Infuriated over the acute shortage of potable water in the capital city, Rajpur Road MlA Rajkumar along with around one dozen councillors submitted memorandum to Jal Sansthan Chief general manager DD Dimri in Dehradun on Tuesday and demanded concrete steps to redress the grievances of residents.

The agitators lamented that tube wells at Nehru Colony and Sanjay Colony supply potable water to majority of the areas but disrupted power supply is hampering the department efforts to quench the thirst of the residents.

They demanded from the Jal Sansthan officials to install generators so that tubewells could be used at its optimum level. While highlighting about the anomalies in the Jal Sansthan.

The Rajpur Road MlA apprised the officials that despite the fact that two overhead water tanks were constructed  but steps are yet to be introduced by the department to give connections resulting water supply is reported to be disrupted.

“After laying potable water pipelines across the capital city, these lines are not connected to the main supply thus causing shortage of potable water in the affected areas,” he said.

Further adding he said that  the majority of the colonies of the capital city receives the supply of potable water from the river Bindal and Bijapur canal and the department should draft plans to construct small water tanks for the supply of potable water to the affected colonies of the capital city to overcome this shortage.

Rajkumar also demanded from the Jal Sansthan officials to take effective steps to keep a tab on unauthorised water tankers’ operators in the capital city.

The MlA informed that officials that Dandipur Mohalla, Khurbura, Jhanda Mohalla, Indresh Nagar, Dhamawala, Paltan Bazar, Dalanwala, Dl road, Chukhuwala Mohalla,  Karanpur, Raja road, Ghosi Gali, Clock Tower etc. are among the worst affected localities in the terms of shortage of potable water.

Among those present were Councilor Neenu Sehgal, Ashok Kohli, Dr Beejander Pal Singh, Rajesh Chowdhury, Arjun Sonkar, Ajay Songar, Prakash Negi and Meena Bisht.
