Accusing the private company of not doing its work properly, councillors and BJP representatives stated that the Chennai Waste Management Company which has been contracted by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) for waste management work should be removed.
They further said that the company has been given too much freedom and even an office in MCD premises which is not appropriate as the company is a private firm.
BJP councillor of Vijay Park, Amita Singh said, “We have given a memorandum to the mayor seeking a solution to this problem which a majority of wards have been experiencing.
The staff of the company that is undertaking the task of door to door garbage collection not only fail to do this work properly but also misbehave with the residents and ask them to pay more money which never reaches MCD. Earlier the system was fair when workers under MCD use to collect garbage from every house.” Councillor from Indiranagar, Shubham Negi said, “The improper management of garbage has been a common sight for all of us. Something regarding this should be done as soon as possible so that people face fewer difficulties in their areas.”
The councillors also stated that the contract with the company has crippled the authority of the MCD. Before signing of the contract, the company was not properly checked along with the contract.
From collection of garbage to collection of service charge, nothing is being done properly. They also alleged that leachate and garbage have piled up at the waste management plant in Shishambada which is a serious problem that needs to be tackled.
Mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ said, “The points stated in the memorandum will be considered and necessary steps will be taken regarding it.”
