Councillors from various wards meet MCD officials

In order to seek solution to various problems faced by the local people because of the crumbling  service of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD),  the newly elected councillors from various wards met the senior civic body officials on Wednesday. The problems were mainly related to  sanitation and potholes gaping  on the roads unrepaired.

Nandi Sharma, the councillor of ward number 12 (Kishan Nagar), said, “There is an area in our ward through which the river Bindal flows. The silt of the river has  spilled over on to the road. Over the past two years, we have been trying to rid the area of the problem. But MCD has done nothing so far. Things turned grim  during the last rainy season. We approached MCD, hoping that it would do something. But nothing happened. Around 150 people faced damages in their houses as water  moved into them. A paltry compensation of Rs 1800 was given to the affected people and the number of those who received the compensation was very small.  This time, a solution must be found out.  We are looking forward to the first board meeting of the councillors to raise the issues.”

A resident of Semma Dwar ward number 40 Rajendra Sharma echoed the same and said, “We are facing many problems like potholed roads and crumbling sanitation service in our areas. We hope that this time the officers would hear out our  grievances and solve our problems.” Councillors from two other wards- Patel Nagar (West) (Ward No- 44) and D L road (Ward No-13) were present at MCD on Wednesday to raise the problems the people of their wards have been facing.

As per the information given by the officials, the first board meeting of the councillors is likely to be held later this month.
