The DIG, Garhwal Range, Sanjay Gunjyal has instructed all the police officers concerned in the seven districts of Garhwal division to concentrate on ensuring crime control in their respective areas. He said this while reviewing the crimes in the range at a meeting held in regional headquarters Pauri along with SSP Haridwar, SP, Rural, Dehradun and the superintendents of police of Chamoli, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Pauri and Uttarkashi.

Addressing officers, he stressed that the loot and dacoity cases in Haridwar and Dehradun districts should be solved and the stolen property recovered. In view of the winter Char Dham being facilitated by the State Government from this year, temporary police posts should be established at Pandukeshwar, Ukhimath, Mukhba and Kharshali where the presiding deities of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamnotri respectively are worshipped in the winter season. These police posts should be aimed at ensuring the safety of visitors and also at establishing an information system. He directed officers to start and continue verification drive with seriousness so that suspicious and criminal elements can be identified on time. Information boards displaying telephone number, mobile phone number and district control room phone number should be put up at the borders of districts, police station areas and near danger zones and accident prone sites. Talking to the media after the review meet, the DIG said that a human trafficking cell will also be formed and police teams will visit the sites in question to ascertain the status of cases. A traffic plan will also be drafted to avoid traffic congestion in the mountainous districts of the range. The rotation-transfer policy will be implemented in the mountainous regions for personnel from constable to inspector ranks. Gunjyal said that 80 per cent murder cases registered in Garhwal range had been solved in the past 10 months while 148 criminals were also arrested. Similarly, 91 per cent of loot cases and 100 per cent of dacoity cases were also solved. He further said that the superintendent of police concerned will hold meeting with the village watchman. The DIG said that many crime cases transferred from the Revenue police to regular police cannot be solved due to them being blind cases. Such cases were transferred to the regular police much after occurrence of the crime which makes it harder to collect evidence and investigate clues. However, the police are making all efforts to solve murder cases, he added.
